- Warm-season grass with most of growth in mid-summer
- Unacceptable forage quality for ruminants in NYS
- Erosion control for sand and gravel pits, mine spoil, and roadsides, cover for wildlife

- loses forage quality rapidly

- must be grown in separate pastures
