Characteristics
- Yield based on 3 harvests/season
- Seeds/pound: 227,000
- Seeding rate: 8-12 lbs pure live seed/acre
- Seeding date: early spring, late summer before August 15
- Usually sown in mixtures for pasture
- Can be used as a hay crop
Advantages
- easy to establish
- good tolerance to acid and poorly-drained soils
- good tolerance to close grazing
- contains a beneficial endophytic fungus
Concerns
- lower yielding than tall fescue
- susceptibility to disease
- may be relatively short-lived in some environments
