- Bunch-type grass, very competitive with legumes
- Good for stored feed or intensive pasture
Advantages
- good quality possible
- easy to establish
- good regrowth
- adapted to droughty soils
- good tolerance to close grazing, with early spring growth
Concerns
- poor tolerance to variable drainage and icing
- older varieties may mature too early in spring to permit high quality harvest
- rapidly loses quality with maturity
