Characteristics
- Yield based on 3 harvests/season
- Seeding rate: 10 lbs pure live seed/acre
- Seeding date: early spring, late summer
- Only about 20% of spring shoots are reproductive
- Used mainly in conservation seedings
- Potential pasture crop, not for stored feed
Advantages
- very early spring growth
- quick recovery after spring harvest
- good tolerance to acid and poorly-drained soils
Concerns
- relatively low yield potential
- low palatability
- fluffy seed difficult to sow
