- Seeding date: early spring, or late summer before August 15
- Two to three harvests per season
- Seed inoculation is essential
- Potential as a hay or pasture crop
Advantages
- good forage quality possible
- adapted to a wide range in soil moisture conditions
- no bloat hazard
- very persistent, once established
Concerns
- slow to establish, slow regrowth
- not adapted to acid or alkaline soils
- may cause photosensitization in ruminants
- lower yielding than alfalfa
